The Chargers may look to acquire another running back during the offseason in an effort to manage Gordon's workload, ESPN's Eric D. Williams reports.
Analysis: Despite the emergence of undrafted rookie Austin Ekeler, who finished his first campaign with 539 total yards and five touchdowns, Williams suggests the Chargers might be eager to acquire another backup more along the lines of an "early-down bruiser", presumably to spell Gordon in short-yardage situations. While Gordon did cross the 1,000-yard rushing threshold for the first time in his career, he once again failed to average more than four yards per carry, joining Leonard Fournette as the only…read more

Gordon (ankle) carried the ball 17 times for 93 yards and also caught six of his seven targets for 31 yards in the 30-10 shellacking of the Raiders on Sunday.
Analysis: You couldn't tell Gordon was limited in practice all week with a sprained ankle, as the third-year running back posted his second highest yards-per-carry average (5.5) of 2017 in a dominating performance to close the season. While the 24-year-old missed out on averaging at least four yards-per-carry for a third consecutive season, Gordon did cross the 1,000-yard threshold for the first time in his career, and also set a career-high in receptions and receiving yards. The do-it-all running back…read more

Will play Sunday vs. Raiders
Gordon (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
Analysis: After Gordon sprained his left ankle in the 14-7 win over the Jets in Week 16, it initially didn't appear promising that he would be able to make it back in time for the regular-season finale, but he received the green light after logging limited practice sessions Thursday and Friday. Though Gordon incurred no issues in pregame warmups, there's still some concern regarding how long he'll able to hold up Sunday due to the ankle injury, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. With that in mind,…read more

Expected to play Sunday
Gordon (ankle) is expected to play Sunday against the Raiders, a league source told Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Analysis: Gordon is listed as questionable on the official injury report. Gordon appeared to be moving okay Friday while running routes at practice, so this report adds to the outlook that he will play. However, this report isn't his official status so fantasy owners will need to check his availability before Sunday's 4:25 ET kickoff.

Listed as questionable for Week 17
Gordon (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
Analysis: We'd expect Gordon to give it a go Sunday, with the Chargers still in the playoff hunt, but that may not be confirmed until about 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:25 ET kickoff, upon the release of the team's Week 17 inactives. Per ESPN's Eric D. Williams, Gordon appeared to be moving okay Friday while running routes at practice, which supports the notion that the running back should be able to tough things out in Week 17.

The Chargers listed Gordon (ankle) as a limited practice participant Thursday.
Analysis: It was thought that the running back would be listed as a non-participant, but evidently he got some work in Thursday. Assuming his ankle responds fine to the work he put in, Gordon would appear to be headed toward active status Sunday against the Raiders. More on his status no later than Friday, when the Chargers release their final Week 17 injury report.

Absent for another practice
Gordon (ankle) won't practice Thursday, but Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn is optimistic the running back will turn in a limited session Friday.
Analysis: Gordon isn't abandoning hope of playing in the season finale against the Raiders, but he'll almost certainly carry an injury designation heading into the weekend after Lynn more or less confirmed the 24-year-old won't practice fully at any point this week. Though the swelling around the sprained left ankle Gordon sustained in the Week 16 win over the Jets is said to be minimal, it appears he'll have to play through pain if he ultimately suits up Sunday. In the event Gordon isn't able to…read more

Not practicing despite optimism
Gordon (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, Eric D. Williams of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn said he considers the running back day-to-day, which meshes with Gordon's own optimism that he'll be able to play through the injury Sunday against the Raiders. He wore a walking boot in the aftermath of Sunday's 14-7 win over the Jets, but further testing nonetheless confirmed that he's merely dealing with a sprained left ankle. With the swelling already subsiding to a significant degree as of Wednesday morning, Gordon hopes to be available for a game that the…read more

Optimistic about Week 17 availability
Gordon is dealing with minimal swelling around his sprained left ankle and is optimistic about his chances of playing Sunday against the Raiders, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Gordon was donning a walking boot after injuring the ankle in the Week 16 victory over the Jets, but it sounds like he received favorable reports from doctors when he was evaluated Tuesday. While it's still likely that Gordon's practice reps will be monitored carefully throughout the week, the running back could be ready to go by Sunday if his swelling continues to subside in the days to come. Even if that's the case, Gordon probably won't be 100 percent healthy for the regular-season finale,…read more

Potential game-time call Week 17
Head coach Anthony Lynn said Monday that Gordon (ankle) could be a game-time decision for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Raiders, Eric D. Williams of ESPN.com. "He's seeing the doctors tomorrow [Tuesday], and we'll know more about Melvin as we get going here," Lynn relayed. "But he's another guy that's probably going to come down to the end of the week."
Analysis: In the aftermath of the Chargers' ugly 14-7 win against the Jets on Sunday, it was revealed Gordon hurt his ankle during the game. As of Monday, Gordon's left foot is encased in a walking boot, likely as a precautionary measure than anything nefarious. In any case, his status is worth monitoring as the week goes on, as his services will be needed to put the Chargers in their best position to earn a playoff berth.

Runs for 81 yards Sunday, but tweaks ankle
Gordon, who recorded 19 carries for 81 yards and a TD in Sunday's 14-7 win over the Jets, sustained an ankle injury in the contest.
Analysis: Gordon also caught three passes for 47 yards Sunday, to complete a solid Week 16 fantasy stat line, but his status will need to be monitored as the Chargers' regular season finale approaches. With Austin Ekeler dealing with a hand injury, Branden Oliver served as Gordon's top backup this week, logging eight carries for nine yards.

Gordon carried 19 times for 78 yards and a touchdown Saturday against the Chiefs. He also caught six of eight targets for 91 yards in the 30-13 loss.
Analysis: Gordon churned out yardage to the tune of 4.1 yards per carry against a tough Chiefs front and found the end zone from two yards out in the second quarter. He assumed a pass-catching role as his team got behind on the scoreboard, totaling a season high in receiving yardage thanks in large part to a 49-yard long gain. Despite the disappointing result for his team, Gordon put forth a tremendous effort for his fantasy owners and has now found the end zone in back-to-back weeks. He'll look to carry…read more

Gordon carried 22 times for 78 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's win over the Redskins. He added one catch (on three targets) for five yards.
Analysis: Gordon's score came on a one-yard run in the third quarter that effectively iced the game for Los Angeles. While the third-year running back has netted a disappointing 3.3 yards-per-carry average over his last five outings, his usage is tough to ignore, as he is on pace for 282 carries this season. Up next for Gordon is a Chiefs defense that ranked 30th in the NFL in rushing yards allowed per game entering Week 14. With the Chargers on an absolute roll offensively, Gordon is a nice option in…read more

Gordon carried the ball 19 times for 77 yards and also caught all four of his targets for 29 yards in the 19-10 win over the Browns on Sunday.
Analysis: Gordon managed to rip off a 29-yard run late in the third quarter to pad his numbers somewhat, but it was yet another average day for the former first-round pick otherwise. The good news is that backup Austin Ekeler didn't fare much better, carrying the ball just four times while seeing three targets compared to Gordon's four. At least in points-per-reception leagues, the Wisconsin product's multi-faceted involvement in the offense makes him a near start most weeks. With games against the…read more

Gordon carried the ball 21 times for 65 yards and caught three passes for 23 yards in the 28-6 win over the Cowboys on Thursday.
Analysis: Gordon was rarely needed Thursday, as the Chargers absolutely decimated their opposition through the air. The third-year running back has now posted a yards-per-carry average under 3.5 for the seventh time in 11 games this season, but his modest receiving numbers and nine total touchdowns likely have been a saving grace for fantasy owners who invested a high pick in the Wisconsin alum. The 24-year-old does appear to have a firm grasp on the majority of the carries out of the backfield, touting…read more

Gordon carried 20 times for 80 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's 54-24 victory over the Bills. He caught neither of his two targets in the passing game.
Analysis: After splitting carries with Austin Ekeler 16 to 10 in last week's loss to the Jaguars, this time Gordon outpaced his counterpart 20 to six. Along the way he took advantage of a Bills run defense that's been repeatedly gashed in recent weeks to find pay dirt for his fourth time in the past six games. However, outside of a couple long runs -- including his 10-yard touchdown scamper -- Gordon was rather inefficient on a per-touch basis. In fact, the Wisconsin product has only topped 4.0 yards per…read more

Gordon carried the ball 16 times for 27 yards and also caught five passes for 15 yards in the 20-17 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday.
Analysis: Weird doesn't begin to describe Sunday's game for Gordon. While the former first-round pick saw the most carries of any Chargers running back, undrafted rookie free agent Austin Ekeler still managed to scamper for 42 yards on 10 carries, with a handful of them coming late in the game as the Chargers were attempting to ice away the win. While Gordon did lead the team in targets, Ekeler also caught five passes, converting them into 77 receiving yards and two touchdowns. A critical fourth-quarter…read more
